Building Our Ryan Home: Moving Week
It is hard to believe three months has passed by so quickly. This week is moving week and it is busy! Thursday morning we had our final walk through with our Project Manager. During the walk through the PM will outline all of the details for your specific floor plan and any additions you made. They will demonstrate how to use all of the appliances, thermostat, etc. and discuss maintenance recommendations. You will receive a folder with important instructions and a thumb drive with additional details. There are a few papers they will review and a couple signatures they will get from you. As you walk through they will note anything that needs to be finished/fixed and unless noted it will be completed before you receive your keys. This walk through lasts 1.5-2 hours. We had a couple minor things that needed touched up, a shelf that needed to be hung in our daughter's walk in closet and they noticed our siding was two different colors although the company says it is from the same batch. The first two things will be fixed before we get our keys but the siding will be an ongoing project until they are able to remedy the concern.
The next day, Friday, we had our closing appointment. This appointment was about an hour and was just so much paperwork from both the mortgage and title companies. When we finished we left with our keys. You have around 3 days to switch over utilities, but once we had the keys in our hands we wanted to get that taken care so it was out of the way. The phone numbers were provided during our walk through the day before so it was easy to get everything set up or transferred. Thankfully, we are moving jut about 10 minutes away so we were able to bring some small things over in our van so it would be less to move later.
Saturday was moving day! In the morning we had our refrigerator delivered and our internet installed. While I was just hanging out while the crews did their thing I was able to unpack all of the boxes we brought over the day before. It is funny how much you can get done where there are no kids around! I had spent the past couple months really purging things that were no longer functional for our family. It was nice to have a fresh start! We were able to move furniture in the Uhaul and then just pick up the rest of the stuff in the rooms and transfer them right over to the new house.
Sunday, some of our family came back and helped us build steps to go out of our morning room and into our back yard where we also set up a temporary fence for the dogs. Our final grade will be done at the same time they pour our driveway and sidewalks, which will be sometime before June 30th. They also helped us hang things on the wall and finish getting things organized. It was so nice to go to bed on the second night in our new house and have it already start to feel like home.
Now that the building process is over we are going to get started making this new house our home. Each month we will be tackling one project and we will share all of the details here in a monthly post!
